I began working with the YWCA Central Alabama in 2004. They had been privileged to enjoy complimentary design services from a variety of ad agencies. While this saves a lot of money for a non-profit organization, the agencies are not highly concerned with a corporate standard when they are providing free design. YWCA had an abundance of brochures and materials for every service but none complimented another and no brand standards were evident in any of the materials.
We started by accessing the national brand website and became familiar with the standards that are expected across the country. Over the years, we have replaced all of the materials and each piece falls into the national brand. While staff may change in any institution over the years, it is important to recognize that standards are for the benefit of the organization and creativity can still have a place as we see new needs for materials.
I love working with the YWCA and feeling like a part of an effort to help our community. It is an investment to me as much as a commitment to provide consistent service to this organization.
